I Don't Understand Poem

I don't understand why my mother talks on the phone so much.
I don't understand why my dog licks so much
I don't understand why school starts at 9:00am
I don't understand why I have to go to bed at 9:00pm
But most of all I don't understand why 3 people can't get along
I do understand why we have friends

The Future of Oil

You may not know this, but oil is going to run out. Which is a problem because we have become very dependent on it because look what runs on it, there are cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, boats, factories, chainsaws etc. Some people say we should stick with oil and others say we should change to a more long term solution.

Some people say we should stick with oil because it runs in all of our cars etc but they also say we should just wait until oil finally becomes too expensive and then we should find a long term solution but on the other hand we could try and find a long soliton know and who knows it could be cheaper? And who knows we may already have the future right on our finger tips because in twenty years time you may be driving in a electric car or a hydrogen fuel cell car who knows?

Most people know that oil is going to run out but don’t really care about it, but trust me oil is going to start costing more and more and more and sooner or later oil will become too expensive to use everyday and then you will care but by that time it would be too late to find a long term solution quickly!

In conclusion I think that in the future we will use the hydrogen fuel cell instead of the internal combustion engine (oil).

Refuges

Refuges, refuges are some of the most over look people in the world, they have been forced to flee their country because of crises, war or natural disaster so would you do if this happen to your country and you became a refugee you would want help right not to be ignored and forgotten, so give something back and donate to the is refugees. Another problem is, is that people with smartphones have been left because people think they don't need help but if you were forced to flee your home would you take your smartphone? So let's help these people by donating today.

The Future of Cars

what do you think the future of cars is?

The truth is that oil is going to run out so what do we do when it does run out. These are the two main alternative.

The first alternative is batteries but think about what you have at home that runs on batteries? They're allways flat or almost flat and now they are putting them in cars. So now our economy is going to go backwards because you go from a 5 minute fuel stop to a 2 hour charge up.

The second alternative is the hydrogen fuel cell you can fill up like you did with petrol or diesel and it is friendlier to the environment because the only byproduct is water but the hydrogen fuel cell is a hybrid because it only make power so you need electric motors and a batteries but on the other hand you can put these in a house and make power with it.

But there's a problem with both of these think about how long it would take everyone to buy a new car that runs on batteries or a hydrogen fuel cell so the real future of cars needs to use the internal combustion engine so who know what the real future is?

how to treat severe bleeding

This is a sequence of how to stop and treat severe bleeding

We as humans have about 4.7 to 5.5 L of blood so there's not much blood to go around so losing more than half a litre of blood could be life threatening. All types of blood loss could be fatal including a nose bleed!

These are the steps you need to follow to treat severe bleeding.

First, apply pressure to the wound with the person hand for a start then put another item on, it could be a pair of underwear if they are clean, it could be anything as long as it is NOT fluffy and it is clean but don’t put your hand on the person you are treating!

Secondly You need to put a bandage around the wound, to do this you take a bandage and make sure it looks like a happy snail, to make a happy snail you have the bandage roll on top of the bandage, then rape around the wound making sure it is not too tight to know you should only be able to put two fingers in either end of the bandage.

Thirdly you need to phone an ambulance. If you do not have a phone shout for help once someone comes to your aid asked them to call an ambulance and to come back once they do so to know they did phone the ambulance.

Next you need to make sure that they elevate their the wound above the heart so if it is on their leg make them lie down and put their noses in the air because blood is a liquid so it is hard for it to go upwards.

Lastly when the ambulance arrives you need to tell the ambulance crew exactly what you did and what time you found the person bleeding.

Overall these steps are very important and could save someones life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Camp

These are some of the images from the year 7 camp and as you can see we had lot's of fun. Once we arrived at Tekapo we went ice skating and we discovered that the girls are better at ice skating then the boys. The next day we went skiing, skiing was fun because I have been skiing before and some of my friends have been to, it was also funny watching the people that have never skied before doing their lesion, after skiing we went snow tubing which is fun and we went down as a 8 at the end. On the last day we went for a mountain bike ride and then we went to the hot springs for an hour or so. Tekapo was a very fun camp and I would go their again ;)

Another day at work

By Isaac

Woof, it’s time for another day at work. My owner bob puts my colour and lead on, i jump into the car for the drive to the airport and wonder to myself what mind happen today? We arrive at the airport to start another day at work, it’s a very slow morning but just before lunch I smell something, something I haven’t smelt today. I smells like fresh fruit I race after the sent with my owner in tow, we arive at the suspect to find a nice fresh banana.

I sit down to wait for my owner to tell the man what he has done and after I get a delicious dog treat my favorite kind tux wonderdogs. We continue to walk around the airport waiting for another suspect that we can catch red handed.

We go around to the exit to see if anyone has snuck through conrinten and shure enough we find the same man but this time with a kiwifruit in his jacket, man some people just don’t learn do they? I thought to myself.

We walk onto an aircraft to see if anything bad was in the cargo hold and sure enough at the very back I smelt something, something that smelt like an orange, and when we had a closer inspected we found psyllid deep inside the orange. The department of conservacion came racing down to kill the psyllid and to stop it spreading into local area. Once the orange and the psyllid were taken care of I got three tux wonderdogs, like can this day get any better!

Well later I discovered that it can we get called over to NZ post to check a parcel from a place called, Otago? I started sniffing this strange parcel from a strange place and discovered that their was no fresh fruit in the parcel. But about an hour later when the sun was just starting to dip under the horizon, and all of a sudden we get a phone call to say that what was in the parcel turned out to be a decapitated pig's head like who would have ges that!

We got into the car to go home and so I can have some tea and a sleep so I am ready and energised for the next day at work.

Life Processes (Explanation)

Living organisms have certain life processes in common. There are seven things that they need to do to count as being alive. The phrase MRS GREN is one way to remember them. These letters stand for movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition.

It can be easy to tell if something is living or not. A teddy bear might look like a bear, but it cannot do any of the seven things it needs to be able to do to count for being alive. All it can do is what you make it do.

On the other hand a car can move, it gets energy from petrol, (like nutrition and respiration) it might have a car alarm (sensitivity) and it gets rid of waste gases through its exhaust pipe. (excretion) but it cannot grow or make babies. So a car is not alive.

Movement is one of the conditions of a living organism. Sometimes it is not that obvious in examples such as plants and fungi, but animals can move like a monkey can climb trees and fish can swim in water but all living organisms can move one way or another.

Respiration, or being able to breathe, is the next condition. Some living things breathe oxygen in the air using lungs  whilst others like fish use gills to breathe underwater and plants use photosynthesis.

Sensitivity is all about being able to detect things. Like humans use fingers and hairs to detect things. Whereas cats and dogs use whiskers to detect things and octopuses use tentacles to detect objects in and out of the water.

Growth is one of the most important thing for a living creature. If things cannot grow you would stay the same size as when you are born to when you die :0 so a bird will stay the same size as when they hatch.

All living things need to reproduce. There is also a huge amount of diversity has evolved, now reproduction is done in many different ways in many different species. For example mammals give birth to living young, whereas reptiles, fish and birds lay eggs which over a certain amount of time will hatch into young.

Another thing all living organisms need to do to  survive is excretion. This comes in different forms such as, faeces, urine, carbon dioxide. (CO2)

Nutrition, or obtaining and consuming food, is the N in the mnemonic MRS GREN. This means all living things must eat to gather nutrition from the plants and animals to survive. For instance lions eat other animals, but on the other hand bees gather nectar from plants to survive.

In conclusion, it’s well known that life on planet earth is very diverse. From the fish in the sea, to the animals on land we all need to do the same things to survive, they need to move, breath, feel, grow, reproduce, excrete, and eat. If living organisms don’t do these things they will not be able to survive.

The Human Skeleton

The human skeleton is very important for our survival, with a total of 206 different bones it can do anything for use from helping us move to protecting our vital organs.

The first important part of the skeleton is our actual skeleton which is made up by our skull, sternum and rib cage which protects our vital organs (e.g. heart, brain, lungs e.t.c.) The actual skeleton is one of the most important for our survival. For instance if you got hit on the head or chest you could sustain severe injuries or even die. :0

Secondly is your long bones which consists of your femur, (leg) humerus, (arm) tibia and fibula. (shin/lower leg) The long bones are the main movement bones but but without our hands and feet they are useless for use but when combined they are very useful.

Thirdly is our movement and grip bones which are our hands, feet, shoulder and knees which are our joints to finish of our movement bones (long bones) without these bones we wouldn't be able to stand upright or even pick up things!!! So these bones help us be human because humans are one of the very fev animals that can stand and walk upright.

Lastly there is your bone marrow which is in most of your 206 bones. Your bone marrow stores fat, produces blood cells and helps us heal and mend your bones, without bone marrow you wouldn't be able to fix sprained, broken and dislocated bones. So let’s say if you broke your arm when you were five it would be broken for the rest of your life.

In  conclusion the human skeleton allows us to move, protects the vital organs and with the help of our bone marrow we can heal our bones and the human skeleton make use human.

Facts about the blood system

The first thing you need to know about the blood system is that it scientific name is circulatory system.
  • A persons heart beats about 3 billion times in there life.
  • Within a tiny droplet of blood, there are some 5 million red blood cells.
  • It takes about 20 seconds for a red blood cell to circle the whole body.
  • Red blood cells make approximately 250,000 round trips of the body before returning to the bone marrow, where they were born, to die.
  • Red blood cells may live for about 4 months circulating throughout the body, feeding the 60 trillion other body cells.
  • About 8 million blood cells die in the human body every second but the same number are born each second.

Science Experiment

Today we did an experiment to investigate the effect of contamination from fertiliser on ground  water supplies. We used red jelly crystals to represent the fertiliser; gravel and sand to represent the soil; and tap water to represent rain water. We found that the fertiliser leached quickly into the ground water supply in the aquifer (plastic container).

1. Adding "fertiliser"
 2. Adding "rain water".
 3. Fertiliser has leached through the "soil" into the ground water.

Carers Expo

On Friday we went to the carers expo at Horncastle arena and this was the Canterbury university and this is a logging artificially intelligent robot that cuts down trees but the artificially intelligent stops the robot from cutting down all the trees around it and be stuck in the middle and best of all for me my uncle owns a logging company. So this robot will benefit my uncles company.

Plant And Food Research Trip

Today we went to plant and food research to learn a bit more about potatoes, which is the vegetable we have been learning about in class recently and our teachers thought it was a good idea to organise a trip to plant and food research. Today we learnt about how they measure calcium in a vegetable, how they run tests, what pests are a big problem and what types of potatoes there are and what the consumer wants in today's market.

Science

Balloon and tray experiment
If we drop a balloon and tray at the same time what happens?
-the balloon drops slower than the tray.
And if we put the balloon on top of the tray and drop it what will happen?
-the balloon drops at the same speed as the tray!

I think the reason for this is that the tray is stopping the wind resistants from reaching the balloon so there is nothing to stop the balloon from falling at the same speed.
